In true cross-blogging fashion, K and I are hosting rabbit and rouftop of La Luna de Miel… literally. They’re sleeping on our fold-out couch after their long trip up and down the Left Coast, or as they put it, the Dairy Tour of the West. (which I always read as a “Diary Tour”.) We’re happy to have them, even if it does mean that Ben won’t have a spot for his trains for a few days. ;)

NaNoWriMo blog team go!
K and I are going to give National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo) a try this year. It goes something like this: starting on November 1st, each of us has to write a 50,000-word (175-page) novel by midnight on November 30th. It’s not as crazy as it sounds; hordes of people finish every year, mostly by lowering their expectations from ‘bestseller’ to ‘will not make someone vomit’ (in the words of one of the organizers).
You can follow our progress along the way by visiting our NaNoWriMo pages; a handy pair of links is included in the sidebar here. I’m not sure exactly what they’ll contain, but at the very least it’ll include up-to-date word counts. If you decide (due to some mad urge) to join us and write a novel of your own, let me know your author URL and I’ll add it to the links.
they won! they’re going to see a launch!
Here’s the latest on the contest I mentioned earlier:
It is official, Kayla won the contest and the title of NASA’s Greatest Fan! Thank you for all your votes. We don’t have all the details yet, but we’re off to (hopefully) see the shuttle launch!
Excited beyond words,
Jennifer
Congratulations, Kayla and Jennifer! Be sure to send us more details as you get them.
first images of SpaceShipTwo, inside and out
Gizmodo has posted the first images of SpaceShipTwo, the ship being built by Scaled Composites for Virgin Galactic flights starting next year. (Ships, rather. The VSS Enterprise is the first to be named, but a total of five are on order.) It’ll hold two pilots and six space tourists, with big comfy seats (for soft landings after weightlessness) and sizeable portholes for earth viewing. From the images released so far, it’s going to be just as beautiful as SpaceShipOne. Perhaps moreso, because this time I can picture myself inside one…
speaking of geekery…
If you’re looking for something to get for the Radcliffs this holiday, feel free to pitch in and get these lovely Klingon bloodwine cups, on auction at Christie’s as part of the 40th anniversary of Star Trek. As the site states: “reputed to have been originally used in Cecil B. DeMille’s The Ten Commandments.” Indeed.
Thanks, Patrick!
