I just finished Chapter 3, and my main characters have finally had a chance to catch their breath.� The space monkeys are no longer chasing them, so they got to introduce themselves a bit and get through some exposition.� Writing that was pretty easy, I just chugged along filling their mouths with dialogue.
And if you believe that, I have some space monkeys I’d like you to meet.
Seriously, writing on Sunday was much harder than writing during the week, for both K and myself.� Weekdays are for work, and Sunday is for rest, right?� So we rested, and rested, and rested right up until midnight, telling ourselves the whole time that we’d get busy later.� To top it off, I downed half of pint of something with way too much chocolate in it, and proceeded to stay up another hour writing the chapter opener I should have done hours before.
As a result, I didn’t get credit for a single word on Sunday, although my numbers are a bit inflated for today.� Technically I wrote all of Chapter 3 in a single day, but really it felt more like a week.� Writing exposition drags, and it drags even more when I’m following up on lots of running around and shouting.� It was really hard to spice it up; at one point I even wrote whole paragraphs about the main character eating cereal.� (I swear I’m not making this up.)� The only peril I could actually muster was� a shocking revelation that yes, they’re still after us, even though we’ve been loping along and chatting and eating cereal for five whole pages.
Here’s hoping the next chapter is a bit more exciting.� I’m thinking about introducing some dialogue about the wonders of electric current.
