1. So strange! If you hadn’t said they were optical illusions, and if they didn’t stop the second you look at one of them directly, I would have just assumed they were examples of someone having fun with flash or something.

   Why?

2. Directly. Not direction. Oops.

3. I don’t understand either, but I have a feeling it has something to do with the light/dark dichotomy–all of them have a few things in common:

   –they have a light edge or side and a dark edge or side
   –they move in conjunction with others that have the light/dark in the same relative position
   –the movement is all peripheral (if you look straight on, they don’t move)

   I wonder, does it have something to do with the premise that dark colors want to “recede” in our visual space when next to light colors?
