<p>What? Okay, maybe not.</p>
<p>I thought, &#8220;What the hell are they thinking? Is there really a problem this solves, a problem so compelling it required someone to figure out how to balance a two-person vehicle on two wheels in city driving conditions?&#8221;</p>
<p>Seriously. Who is their target market? Prospective Smart car buyers who would jump for something that popped more wheelies? All those Segway owners longing for a dorkmobile built for two?</p>
<p>No, I think this is something much simpler: another publicity stunt by GM to try to associate themselves with progressive &#8220;green&#8221; thinking without the risk of producing a product that might displace the automobile. Can&#8217;t you just hear them talking about it in the boardroom? &#8220;I mean really, this one practically kills itself!&#8221;</p>

<blockquote><p>California teeters on the edge of the worst drought in the state&#8217;s history, officials said Thursday after reporting that the Sierra Nevada snowpack &#8211; the backbone of the state&#8217;s water supply &#8211; is only 61 percent of normal.</p>
<p>January usually douses California with about 20 percent of the state&#8217;s annual precipitation, but instead it delivered a string of dry, sunny days this year, almost certainly pushing the state into a third year of drought.</p>
<p>The arid weather is occurring as the state&#8217;s water system is under pressure from a growing population, an aging infrastructure and court-ordered reductions in water pumped through the Sacramento-San Joaquin River Delta &#8211; problems that didn&#8217;t exist or were less severe during similar dry spells in the late 1970s and late 1980s.</p></blockquote>
<p>It just kills me whenever I hear folks praising all the sunshine we&#8217;ve had.  How can people be so <em>out of touch</em>?!?</p>

				<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>So, I&#8217;ve been asking myself that question a lot since Prop 8 eked out a victory this week at the polls &#8212; thanks in large part to the approximately <a href="http://www.advocate.com/news_detail_ektid64163.asp">22 million dollars donated by members of the LDS (Mormon) Church to the Yes on 8 campaign</a>.  Seems like <a href="http://www.mormonsstoleourrights.com/">I&#8217;m not the only one asking this question</a> &#8212; and they&#8217;ve even <a href="http://www.mormonsstoleourrights.com/#petition">started a petition</a>.</p>
<p>I know that the LDS church offers a lot for its members &#8212; community, faith, support &#8212; but what I don&#8217;t understand is why they should have the right to use their resources to force the rest of us to conform to their world view.  It&#8217;s not only unfair and immoral, it&#8217;s unconstitutional.</p>
<p>(The genius of the constitution being to protect the minority from a hostile majority through an intricate set of checks and balances &#8212; one of them being the Bill of Rights.  Each time I watch our democratic process at work, I am awed by the foresight and genius (and sheer dumb luck) of our country&#8217;s founders.  For this very reason, I love my country.)</p>
