Absolutely. A Wrinkle in Time was probably my first non-Heinlein SF. I remember checking it out from the school library (fifth grade) because it had “time” in the title and a freaky guy with glowing eyes on the cover.

The Wrinkle in Time series is an excellent introduction to sci fi with some nice philosophical questions thrown in.
