Fiddling while...

I've been futzing with the page layout again. Please let me know if my changes have caused anything hideous to appear.

Lies and lying liars

You probably all get the Daily Mislead already, but I just had to point out today's coverage because the lies are so amazingly blatant:

Bush's Economic Optimism Belied by Deficits, Unemployed

I can't say it any better than they do. I also find it astonishing that anyone believes anything this administration says anymore.

Grassroots Radio

There is a low power FM "micro-radio" movement (in case you hadn't heard) and Radio4All gives you access to the movement, downloadable (free!) audio and some of the stations.

Some of the audio comes from the LA Sound Posse who record and make available such items as Vandana Shiva's lecture at Scripps College last December on "Real Wealth, Real Poverty: How Economic Globalization is Robbing the Poor of Wealth."

Listen, learn and act, people! :)

Bombard Away!

Seriously, if anyone here has suggestions (like some of these) on how to save the Hubble telescope, please let NASA know. Apparently they're willing to listen, which is good because it would be stupid to let the Hubble die because of Dubya's new budgetary plans.

Educate Yourself!

Remember those 16mm educational films they used to show in class to teach you about periods and things? A site called the Prelinger Archives (thanks, Glen!) links to some you can download and watch with Quicktime or Real. Included in their list of the most downloaded are "Are You Popular?", "As Boys Grow" (featuring a rather creepy coach), "Molly Grows Up," and "A is for Atom." People even post reviews!

I learned from "Molly" that when I'm on my period, I should only square dance in moderation. Very good to know.

SpaceShipOne ups and downs

I didn't get a chance to mention it at the time, but SpaceShipOne, the world's most fantastically beautiful rocketship, had its first supersonic test on December 17th. Note that this is the first privately-built aircraft to break the sound barrier.

The Mojave weblog also has a nice page with photos of the launch, including the heart-stopping (but luckily not show-stopping) landing. I can't wait to hear about the next flight!

With you no more?

I know you thought Jesus was with you always, but apparently he's no longer sending people inspirational text messages. Damn those Finns!

With you always

I know it's just lack of sleep, but everything looks surreal to me today. For instance, this site with Jesus sketches. It almost makes sense, but then... a french horn?

I also find myself wondering if Jesus should be standing farther back from the welder, or if he scrubbed up before going into the operating room.

Um?

Oddest of all, the site doesn't ask us to do anything with the sketches. Can't buy them, not really supposed to glean anything in particular from them. Just, um, enjoy them, I guess. Right?

Trump Toupee?

It's probably mean, but I can't help but wonder if Donald Trump has a bad comb-over that looks like a hairpiece, or a bad hairpiece that looks like a comb-over.

Seriously. It's a stumper. Can you tell?

A heady time for space geeks

The Washington Post has a good summary article on the NASA Mars rovers and comet mission, with photos. I'm already using the latest photo as my desktop background, but I'm really looking forward to seeing the full panorama when it arrives.
