Gettin' hitched is all the rage
It looks like the mayor of San Francisco picked up the gauntlet I threw down in a previous posting. As a result of his bravery, San Francisco issued its first marriage license to a gay couple today. Whee!
I love that Phyllis and Del have been together for 51 years. Somehow I don't think they're the RNC's top choice for gay marriage poster children. Go, you wild octogenarians!
A related quote, brought to my attention by Alan: "An unjust law is a code that a numerical or power majority group compels a minority group to obey but does not make binding on itself. " - Martin Luther King, Jr.

Oh my gosh. This is wonderful! I can't believe it. What a lovely, gutsy thing to have happen! I think that the MLK quote that Chris posted says it exactly. We shouldn't have to see this as monumental, just everyday people in love pledging to care for one another. Why should this be such an issue? Okay, I'm preaching to the choir... Yay! Yay! Yay!
Posted by: Karen at February 13, 2004 08:29 AMI just read the article and the thought of heading down to San Fran did cross my mind. Then we could add it to our civil union certificate from Vermont and our Domestic Partner certificate from California. So then I can slam down a ream of paper and say, "Look people, we're together, get it?!?"

This is coming to a head very fast, and I have tears in my eyes, because this is VERY cool. I just hope the big showdown that's coming goes in our favor!
BTW, did you and Kerrigan head over? Any plans? Not too long of a drive...
